Masterpiece takes a deep dive into one man's obsession with red pieces of culinary heaven. Set in a forested area, Chad is a passionate butcher commis and he's determined to use his time to teach a sinister cooking lesson we'll soon never forget. But as the night goes on, Chad finds himself in a difficult spot with his audience.
What started as a thriller, Masterpiece turned comedy is the result of six grown men giggling their way through telling a short film story. We filmed everything over the span of a single rain-turned-overcast afternoon in a forested area in southern Manitoba. We used the Rode VideoMic Pro, Rode Boompole Pro, and Rode invisiLav, along with a Canon C200 and Sony FS700. We used Astera Titan LED tube lights to create the flickering fire effect on faces during all dialogue scenes (where the fire was only outputting smoke). One scene which didn't make the final cut included police lights, which we were able to emulate with strobing effects on trees and faces in the scene. Some of our challenges were the weather, a cougar sighted in the area, and keeping a fire consistently going for several hours. Altogether, it was such a fun experience with friends! We hope everyone enjoys the film.
