April 1st, 2018 - RØDE Microphones is thrilled to announce the return of My RØDE Reel, the world’s largest short filmmaking competition. Now in its 5th year, the global competition is back with even more incredible prizes and opportunities offering a whopping $1 MILLION PRIZE POOL and 30 CATEGORIES to enter.

 

 

ANYONE CAN ENTER

This year boasts 30 categories, both budding and professional filmmakers are encouraged to enter.

HOW TO ENTER

To be in the running, entrants are required to create a short film of 3 minutes or less, and a behind-the-scenes featurette showcasing the RØDE product/s used in the making of the film. It’s that simple.

$1 MILLION IN PRIZES

RØDE has teamed up with some of the most respected brands in filmmaking worldwide to assemble this year’s giant prize pool, valued at an incredible $1 MILLION.

These brands include: Adobe, Angelbird, APHEX, Astora, Atomos, Blackmagic, Blastwave FX, CamCaddie, FilmConvert, Freefly, FuzzMeasure, iOgrapher, JOBY, Lowepro, Michael Wiese Productions, Miller, Moment, Movcam, Music Bed, MZed, Red Giant, Rhino, SoundField and Zhiyun.

 

 

This year the 6 MAJOR PRIZES return, including:

• Judges’ Film Award for the best short film, chosen by the 2018 panel of judges.
• People’s Choice Award for the most popular short film.
• Female Filmmaker Award for the best short film by a female filmmaker. This award was introduced in 2017 to encourage and celebrate women in the film industry.
• Young Filmmaker Award for the best short film by an entrant under 18 years.

 

The best behind-the-scenes film awards include:

• Educational BTS Award for the most informative behind-the-scenes.
• Entertaining BTS Award for the most entertaining behind-the-scenes.

 

NEW CATEGORY – THE PITCH

A new category for 2018 – The Pitch – offers a once-in-a-lifetime chance for budding creatives to win a year-long, all-expenses-paid job as a Video Content Producer at RØDE HQ in Sydney Australia! To enter, creators send a compelling 3-minutes-max showreel or “pitch” to explain why they should work at RØDE.

5TH BIG YEAR ON FILMMAKERS’ CALENDARS

“We’ve made it to the 5th year of My RØDE Reel,” says Damien Wilson, CEO of RØDE Microphones. “With our biggest ever $1 million prize pool and even more categories to enter, we hope filmmakers around the world continue to be inspired to enter. Each year the film entries for My RØDE Reel get better and more creative – I can’t wait to see what incredible films our entrants have to offer in 2018, and I am really looking forward to meeting the winner of The Pitch.”

Last year’s My RØDE Reel received an incredible 1,520 total entries from over 80 countries around the globe. The competition grows consistently each year, and this year is expected to be no different.
